FCA’s Authorisations Metrics: What Consumer Credit Firms Looking to Apply For New Permissions Need to Know

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has recently published its Q4 2024/25 Authorisations Operating Service Metrics, covering the period from January to March 2025. This quarterly report provides transparency into the FCA’s performance in processing various applications, which is crucial for firms in the financial services sector, especially those involved in consumer credit.

Key Highlights from the Q4 Metrics

  • Overall Performance: The FCA determined 99.1% of applications across all metric areas within the statutory deadline.
  • Metric Ratings: Out of the evaluated metrics, 13 were rated green (meeting targets), 3 amber (slightly below target), and 1 red (significantly below target). The red rating was attributed to a low-volume area due to a single application being determined after the statutory deadline.

Implications for Consumer Credit Businesses

For consumer credit firms, these metrics are more than just numbers—they reflect the FCA’s efficiency and can influence strategic decisions:

  • Application Planning: With high percentages of applications processed within statutory deadlines, firms can better plan their application submissions and anticipate approval timelines.
  • Regulatory Confidence: Consistent performance by the FCA enhances trust in the regulatory process, encouraging firms to engage proactively with the regulator.
  • Operational Readiness: Understanding the FCA’s processing times helps firms align their operational readiness, ensuring they meet compliance requirements promptly.

Best Practices for Navigating Authorisations

To leverage the FCA’s efficiency:

  • Prepare Comprehensive Applications: Ensure all required information and documentation are complete and accurate to avoid delays.
  • Stay Informed: Regularly review FCA updates and metrics to remain aware of any changes in processing times or requirements.
  • Engage Early: Initiate discussions with the FCA early in the application process to clarify expectations and address potential issues.

Looking Ahead

The FCA plans to publish its performance for the first quarter of 2025/26 in August 2025. Consumer credit firms should monitor these updates to stay informed about any shifts in processing efficiency or regulatory focus.
